Calgary, Alberta Highland Games

4th September 2010, held at Springbank Park for All Seasons.

2010 Highland Games was the 97th anniversary for the Calgary Games but was ‘new’ in many ways.  First there was a new location, between the city and the country, which provided mountains in the background and more closely resembled the original Highland Games in Scotland. This was also the first year for the post-Games Ceilidh, held in the Entertainment Centre, featuring live entertainment by Scottish band, “Celtic Spirit”.  A 5Km run was added, with funds going to fight cancer, plus there was the annual Scotland/England soccer match and all of the regular favourite events.

The Clan Hay Society tent was new in a few ways too.

We were so pleased to have a new member, Laraine Strafford and her husband Ben, assisting, along with Alexander Leith, both pictured below. Also shown are Janet Hay Deeney born in  Skelmorlie, Scotland, now living in Kimberley, B.C. and her daughter Fiona and grandchildren from Fort McMurray, AB.  Bottom picture is Prairie Convenor Doug, Derek Hay, of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Alexander Leith.

The day was sometimes cloudy, and we even had a short downpour, but the fun, friendship and events were very bright spots all day

long.
