During his talk, Philip will look at the power of genetic genealogy in bridging the gaps often left by traditional genealogical research.  He will provide an overview of previous research into two Scottish noble families, of which the Hays are one, going on to look at an example of a Norman lineage using Y-DNA and other evidence, finishing with a look at the rationale for his PhD research.

 

Philip works for the University of Strathclyde, among other things as a tutor in the postgraduate Genealogical Studies Programme, although his role sits in the university’s Centre for Forensic Studies, which is part of the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry.
