The 2024 Gathering

The 2024 clan gathering was a wonderful re-kindling of old relationships, and the opportunity to meet up with new clansmen/women who (I am sure) will be lifelong friends.

Thursday 1st August saw the established inter-clan croquet match at Crathes Castle, hosted by James Burnett of Leys.

Friday started with a Whisky tour (what better way to start the day) at Royal Lochnagar Distillery

Then in the afternoon, the Hay’s partook of an excellent tour of Balmoral. Those attending were David Wayte, Dorothee and Frank Roels and the Fredrickson's.

On to Friday evening and a fabulous Ceilidh and Stovie Supper (cooked by Nicki Elrick – more about her later). The dancing was lead by Gordon Hay (piano) and John and Liz Slaven (fiddle and accordion.) Alan Hay describes them very accurately as 'the best band in Buchan.'

Saturday – and what a day! The Aboyne Games did not disappoint! I have added photo’s below – but if there are more that you have taken that you would like added, please send them to me (with a caption) and I’ll add them in.

Of special note was the induction of Uwe Stabenow as Convener of the Clan for Germany.

Saturday evening was the formal dinner to celebrate our Chief becoming the longest serving leader of our Clan. A fabulous dinner and reception was held at the Banchory Lodge Hotel.

Special Awards were made to Malcolm Hay, Alan Hay and Pam Rotheroe-Hay – each being given a very rare bottle of Errol Whiskey! Also an Honorary membership to the Clan was made to Nicki Elrick, who for many years has welcomed the Clan and sustained us with tea and cakes at New Slains Castle.

Sunday was the traditional Lunch at Delgatie Castle. Chris, Melanie and Joan made us all welcome and put on a fantastic meal. Then (as tradition dictates) we paid visits to Old and New Slains Castle and concluded with tea and cakes!
